| A complete technology
surrounds this subject. I am not qualified to go into it at that level
of detail; all I wish to do is to encourage you to be aware of its importance.
While facing someone with your arms and legs crossed, think about how
you feel about that person. Your body language is saying "I do not
wish to be open with you". Consciously or subconsciously you are
sending the message, and it is probably being received. Slouching is another
style that seems to say either "I don't care", or "I don't
think I am very important. A clear signal of aggressiveness or defiance
is hands on the hips.
Eye contact is another major aspect of body language. When someone talks to me and doesn't look me in the eye, I know there is something very different going on with this person ..... they are not being open, or honest, with me. It is hard to look someone in the eye and not tell the truth. When I change my body posture, (from closed to open for example), I
find that my attitude toward the person changes. Stay conscious of what
you are communicating, and take advantage of the body language messages
being sent by other persons. |
