| So often I hear
parents taking credit for how smart their children are, or how good looking.
As if they had anything to do with it. The environment and training provided
by good parents have a powerful effect on the children, but they arrived
in the world with a set of capabilities the parents had nothing to do
with. Parents are merely the chosen messengers to take the complete child
given to them, and to deliver that child in good shape into adulthood.
The flip side also applies. If a child is mentally retarded, or some other flaw, the parents had little to do with it unless drugs or poor diet were involved. It's not their fault and they shouldn't spend time punishing themselves. Take credit for what you accomplished, and give credit elsewhere for
things you had little to do with. |
